The University of Redlands Accounting Department will again offer free tax assistance through its collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, beginning March 8 and continuing every Monday through April 12.
For this tax season, all assistance will be initiated through an online intake form. Clients who fill out the form will receive an appointment and directions on how to submit documents either online, by email, or through a special dropbox on campus. The form can be accessed at redlands.edu/vita.
VITA volunteers are trained using IRS material and an electronic tax filing program. Volunteers help prepare a Form 1040 with attached schedules and forms.
Clients should submit: All forms (e.g., W-2 and 1099s); proof of identification for the taxpayer and, if applicable, spouse; and Social Security cards or individual taxpayer ID cards for the taxpayer, spouse, and/or dependents. If available, clients may also want to provide proof of account for direct deposit of refund (e.g. voided check); information on other income; information on all deductions/credits; and a copy of last year’s tax return.
