Smiley Library reopening to the public on Sept. 9

After being closed to the public for almost six months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the A.K. Smiley Public Library is reopening on Sept. 9 with limited in-person hours.

In order to enter the library, anyone over the age of two must wear a face covering and practice social distancing. Temperatures will be checked, and patrons with temperatures of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed inside the library.

Instead of entering at the front door, patrons will go through a new entrance in the children’s garden and exit through the Young Readers Room. Visitors are being asked to stay no longer than one hour.

The library’s new in-person hours are: Monday and Tuesday, 2 to 6 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 1 to 5 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

Patrons will still be able to take advantage of the library’s Books-to-Go service. Cardholders can request books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines from the library’s catalog online, via email, or by calling 909-798-7565. Patrons can make an appointment to pick up their items, which will be held at a table set up in front of the library’s Vine Street entrance.

Library staffers can be reached by phone or email during the following hours: Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
