The International WeLoveU Foundation and LifeStream Blood Bank are teaming up for what’s believed to be the largest-ever blood drive in the Inland Empire.
The blood drive will take place on Sunday, June 30, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the National Orange Show Event Center’s Valencia building, 690 S. Arrowhead Ave., San Bernardino. Access is through Gate 9, off Arrowhead Avenue.
“The International WeLoveU Foundation’s mission and commitment to such a large blood drive that will touch so many people aligns perfectly with LifeStream’s mission to save lives by connecting donors and patients through the gift of blood,” LifeStream President and CEO Dr. Rick Axelrod said in a statement.
The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation is a nonprofit that focuses on community outreach efforts, like blood drives and environmental cleanups. “Volunteer service is neither far away nor grand,” the foundation’s chairwoman, Zahng Gil-Jah, said in a statement. “We must not turn. away from those who are faced with difficulties. If we go to them and encourage them, sharing even the smallest thing with them, we can feel true happiness and joy.”
Hundreds of volunteer blood donors are expected to attend the event, and walk-ins are welcome. Donors must be at least 15 years old (with signed parental consent forms for 15 and 16-year-olds), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and show a current photo ID. Donors should also increase their fluid intake 24 hours before the event. —Catherine
