The Redlands Lugonia Station Post Office at 404 New York St. is relocating to Park Ave., after the U.S. Postal Service agreed to sell the property to Esri.
Esri is an international software supplier, with its headquarters right next to the post office. By purchasing the property, Esri will be able to expand its campus.
USPS officials announced in a March 27 statement that the new post office will be built at 1615 W. Park Ave., about a half-mile away from its current location. Once construction starts on the post office, which will be built by Esri, it should take more than a year for it to be completed, the Redlands Daily Facts reports. The New York Street post office will remain open until the Park Avenue station is operational.
Esri approached the Postal Service about buying the property, and a public meeting was held in November for USPS to receive feedback from the community. There were some concerns, USPS said in a statement, but a new post office will “achieve operational efficiencies, saving the Postal Service money, with minimal or no impact to customers.” —Catherine
