A man donates blood

Do your part to save lives during National Blood Donor Month

January is National Blood Donor Month, and LifeStream Blood Bank makes it easy for volunteers to give throughout the Inland Empire.

LifeStream has centers in San Bernardino, Riverside, Ontario, Victorville, Murrieta, and La Quinta that are open every day and take appointments. The blood bank, which supplies blood and services to more than 80 hospitals in Southern California, says it is usually difficult to collect enough blood in January because of colder temperatures, weather, and the cold and flu season keeping donors from coming down.

As part of National Blood Donor Month, LifeStream will give all donors who stop by donation centers from Jan. 17 to 21 a reusable bag with an inspirational quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. All donors who come in from Jan. 25 to Feb. 18 will be entered into a sweepstakes drawing for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Lakers-Pelicans game Feb. 27.

To donate blood, a person must be at least 15 years old, not feel sick, weigh at least 110 pounds, and have a photo ID. Donors 17 and under must have their parents sign a consent form. —Catherine
