Historic Santa Fe Depot in downtown Redlands.

Residents urged to share ideas for Redlands transit village areas

The Redlands Arrow passenger rail line is expected to finally start running in 2021, and the city needs your help in designing the three transit villages that will be built at the University of Redlands, downtown, and near ESRI on New York Street.

Transit villages are mixed-use developments that offer both residential and retail space, encouraging locals to drive less and use transit more. Over the next several months, the city will host specific workshops to discuss these transit villages, and residents are invited to come and share their input and ideas for the look and feel of these developments.

The nine-mile Redlands Arrow will connect Redlands to San Bernardino, with five stops planned in Redlands. Three of the stops — University of Redlands, downtown Redlands at the historic Santa Fe Depot, and the New York Street/ESRI station — are expected to be open by 2021.

Each of the following workshops will take place at 6 p.m. For more information, visit the city’s Redlands Transit Villages Specific Plan website.
