Head east for 150th anniversary of the Smiley brothers’ Mohonk Mountain House

Before the Smiley brothers came west and became prominent leaders in Redlands, they established the Mohonk Mountain House, a resort in New York’s Hudson Valley.

The hotel remains a summer destination for many, and in celebration of its 150th anniversary next year, the A.K. Smiley Public Library and University of Redlands are sponsoring a trip to Mohonk.

Guests will stay six days and seven nights at Mohonk Mountain House, from June 7 to June 14, 2019. Rooms range from $710 to $1,280 a night, plus tax and resort fees, based on double-occupancy. All rates include three meals a day, afternoon tea, and activities offered at the resort. Guests will be able to choose the room they want, and will also be able to attend special events and talks just for travelers from Redlands, including nightly cocktail parties and a meeting with members of the Smiley family.

The hotel is only 90 miles north of New York City, and optional day trips from Mohonk to nearby areas will be announced later.

To reserve a room, call Mohonk at 855-883-3798, and mention you are with Redlands. Then, send an email to alumni@redlands.edu so they know you are traveling with the group.
