Road work will keep part of California Street closed through September

It will be a long summer for those who use the west end of the Orange Blossom Trail or the California Street route to Barton Road and San Timoteo Canyon.

Both the trail and the street will be closed off at Redlands Blvd. until early September as the Mission Creek Zanja Channel is modified for realignment and widening of California Street.

City officials hope the majority of the work that requires the road closure will be completed before students return in mid-August to Mission Elementary School, which sits next to the project site. Other work, including traffic signals, re-establishment of the Orange Blossom Trailhead, and striping, which require minimal road closure, will be completed after school begins.

The $4.6 million project has been long in the planning and involves the City of Loma Linda, City of Redlands, and San Bernardino County Flood control. —Jennifer
