Since retiring, Redlands resident Tom Kaney has spent his time crafting wooden cutting boards, but the money he makes selling these boards doesn’t go back into his pocket — he donates every penny to local nonprofits, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside.
Kaney has donated more than $20,000 to the Club, and on June 12, Kaney received the Be Great Future Award at their annual Be Great Awards at the Redlands County Club. Kaney was honored with the award due to the impact he has made through his support of academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.
During the ceremony, three graduating seniors from Inland Empire high schools — Isabel Cruz, Tyryn Cleveland, and Katie Gonzalez — were given Youth of the Year Ambassadors awards, and Kaney said that “after seeing Katie and Tyryn and Isabel up here, my hours in the woodshop are worth it.” —Catherine
